SCRIBBLES FROM THE BIBLE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR MIND, INFLUENCES AND INFLUENCING.

What is influence?

Simply put, it is the capacity to have an effect on the character, development or behavior of someone or something. Influence could also be the effect itself.

The effect of influences on our lives cannot be over emphasized and should not be under emphasized. From the moment of our birth till death, every decision we make and every step we take is influenced by factors around us. And this reason is why people’s lives mirror the environments they’re coming from.

Influence doesn’t only stop at the environment. It could come in various diverse ways but the first and primary point of influence is usually the environment and the people that make up that environment.

The Bible in 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, “Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals.”

Our minds is the front door to every other space and area of our lives. If one can master control over his/her mind then he/she has power to do almost anything and control almost every outcome of his/her life.

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.”

Whatever you give your mind to is very likely what you become. If you give your mind to things that edifies you’ll be edified. If you give your mind to learning, you’ll grow. If you give your mind to negativity, your life will carry that reality.

How do these things get access to our minds? By our five senses; what we see, hear, smell, taste and feel.

So to man the gate to your mind is to control your five senses and be intentional about the. things you give access to. If you can control all of these gateways to the mind, you can control what the mind produces and whatever the mind produces is what our lives become.

Now let me ask you, what are your influences? Who are the people you listen to? What are the things you give your mind to?

Proverbs 13:20 says, “whoever walks with the wise becomes wise but the companion of fools suffer harm”

How are you also influencing things around you? That little circle of yours, what’s your influence in it? are you a good influence? Are you the one everyone wants to emulate and learn from or are you just the follower?

Proverbs 13:26 says, “The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray.”

Once again I ask, what sort of influence are you in your circle?

That same scripture in the NKJV says, “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

If you’re not a positive influence on the environment around you and the environment isn’t influencing you positively then it’s time to fix that or leave that situation.

Be intentional about your influences.

Are you the influencer or conformist in your circle?

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind,”

Are you renewing your mind constantly? Or are you just going along with whatever anyone says that sounds like truth?

Are you unlearning what is not needed and relearning the things needed so you can be a positive influence on your environment or are you doing what everyone is doing because it seems or feels right?

How do you use your little influence?

1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are the chosen race, the king’s priests, the holy nation, God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of your darkness into His marvelous light.”

As christians and believers, we all have been called into a life of influence while on earth and not a life of conformism to the ways of the world. If whatever you’re doing as a job or as a lifestyle gives no room for this assignment then I tell you you’re doing the wrong things.

Everytime I ever got things wrong in my life, it was as a result of the things, people, words I let influence my mind which then produced actions that form my reality.

Are you being a good influence? And are you letting the right things influence you?

Don’t forget, thoughts become actions. Be intentional with your mind.

Use your influence for Christ.
